Renewable Heat Incentive
The Renewable Heat Incentive is an environmental payment scheme introduced by British government in 2011 to reward those generating heat from renewable sources. As Department of energy and Climate Change states, this is the first financial support scheme for renewable heat of its kind in the world. The RHI is being administered by Ofgem E-Serve.
Renewable Heat Incentive is designed to work in 2 ways:
1. You will save money by not needing to use increasingly expensive gas or oil for your heating.
2. You will be paid for the hot water and heat you generate and use yourself.
Important information:
- The scheme is divided into 2 Phases: first is targeted in the non-domestic sectors under the Renewable Heat Premium Payment scheme and second: includes more technologies and support for households.
- As a result of changes required by the European Commission, at the moment government is reviewing the timetable for introducing Phase 2 which is going to be confirmed early in the New Year 2012.
