Biomass

What is Biomass?

Biomass is organic matter of recent origin. It doesn’t include fossil fuels, which have taken millions of years to evolve. The CO2 released when energy is generated from biomass is balanced by that absorbed during the fuel’s production. We call this a carbon neutral process.

Instead of burning the polluting and rapidly diminishing supply of fossil fuels a Biomass Boiler burns a carbonneutral alternative e.g. wood pellet.

This produces heat for your central heating system and hot water while helping you to live in a more sustainable way.

Why use wood pellets?

Wood pellets are small compressed cylinders of natural dry wood shavings and   sawdust, formed from what was previously waste. Wood pellets are therefore    classed as Low Carbon helping to counter climate change.

The advantages of pellets are:

- Indigenous and renewable product

- CO2-neutral

- Clean and easy to handle

- Convenient delivery by truck

- Unaffected by international/political crises

Pellets are supplied either in small bags or in loose bulk, delivered by road tanker. Wood pellet prices are approximately: Bagged: 4 – 4.4 pence per kWh, Bulk: 3.8 – 4 pence per kWh. These are typical prices experienced by our local customers and  include delivery. VAT is additional at 5% to the end user. Prices vary dependant on locality, but production within the UK is increasing as demand
